Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS)

The Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) serve as the foundation for early childhood education across the state, providing a clear framework for what young children should know and be able to do from birth through age five. The standards cover key developmental domains including physical development, social-emotional development, approaches to play and learning, language and literacy, and cognitive development. GELDS supports educators and caregivers in creating engaging, age-appropriate learning environments that prepare children for success in kindergarten and beyond.

At Cherished Children Education Centers in Warner Robins and Centerville, the GELDS framework is fully embraced and thoughtfully integrated into daily classroom routines. Teachers at both locations use the standards to design lesson plans that foster creativity, curiosity, and confidence in young learners. Activities are planned with each developmental milestone in mind, ensuring that children experience a balanced mix of play, hands-on learning, and structured guidance. Whether it’s practicing early literacy through storytelling or exploring science through sensory play, every experience is aligned with GELDS goals.

Cherished Children’s implementation of the GELDS curriculum also emphasizes individualized learning and continuous assessment. Educators regularly observe and document children’s growth to tailor activities to each child’s unique needs and developmental stage. Families are kept informed and engaged through regular communication and updates about their child’s progress. By combining the proven structure of GELDS with a nurturing, family-oriented atmosphere, Cherished Children creates a strong early learning foundation that helps each child thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

The Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) provide a research-based framework that outlines what young children from birth to age five should know and be able to do. Designed to support high-quality early learning experiences, GELDS focuses on five key developmental domains: Physical Development and Motor Skills, Social and Emotional Development, Approaches to Play and Learning, Communication, Language and Literacy, and Cognitive Development and General Knowledge. These domains work together to support the whole child, guiding educators and caregivers in creating age-appropriate, engaging, and supportive learning environments that build a strong foundation for school readiness and lifelong success.
